    Judge Frederick Griswold

    Updated 04-28-2019

Information on Judge Frederick Griswold is very limited however there is information in the Brookfield Historical Society that shows that the Griswold property was sold to the Kibbee family and then to the Snow family around 1850. So knowing where Fredrick Griswold lived gave me a starting point in which to find the cabin site of Justin Morgan. As of the writing of this website in 2019, Eaton Snow now lives at that location. Eaton was raised in the old house that was once owned by Griswold and had the home dismantled and move to Charlotte Vermont because it was sadly in dis-repair.
If you click on the image of the old Griswold home it will expand to a larger image. In that image you see the complete home. The middle of the house, with the porch was the original home. You can see a shed attached to the roof line of the porch. The larger part of the home was added on to the original later on by Griswold. The picture of the shed shows it still standing in 2019 and if you click on the picture a larger image will display. You can see on that shed where the roof line was once attached.

There is not a lot of information about Judge Frederick Griswold except that he was a judge and there are a few articles about some of the cases he decided on. I do know that he was born April 23 1766 and moved to Randolph, Vermont when his parents Joseph and Margery Griswold did (Grave Stone here).  Frederick died in Brookfield Vermont on March 3, 1854 but I have not been able to find his grave stone.

    Updated 8-21-2019

Today Eaton Snow has passed away. Eaton or Sonny as many called him was a kind man who loved to talk history. He owned the land that Judge Fredrick Griswold owned and that the Morgan Horse was pastured in. Although he signed the paperwork before his death, I am not sure if it will still be valid. I will reach out to the family and try to find out who will own the land now that Eaton has passed. It is a sad day. I'm glad I had the chance to get to know him. He was one of a kind.
His son Nathan has taken over the property and will continue the Snow family ownership of this famous property.
